New 3ds; Angry? Excited? Indifferent?

Ds Games!

A couple of days ago, Nintendo announced a new 3ds will be getting a release in Japan, no word on other regions as of yet. This new design will have an LL (XL) version as well. A "C stick" was added to the right side above the face buttons to be sued as both a button and secondary analog for certain situations. The face buttons now have SNES colors, not that big of a deal. There are two new shoulder buttons on each side, and a few other things have been moved around the like stylus spot and game cart slot. The 3d viewing angle is now wider than ever as the camera and gyroscope tracks the direction you are looking from apparently. The battery life has been improved, and has a built in NFC reader. The system can auto adjust screen brightness to save battery life as well. There will be an sd card slot added, and lastly, a strong CPU over all meaning faster download times, and more impressive games being developed for the system.

All that aside, I see many mixed reactions so far. People that just upgraded to a 3ds XL probably aren't thrilled that in a couple years there will be new 3ds exclusives they won't be able to play. For me, I held off on the XL because I had a feeling a second version with another analog stick would be coming, so I'm glad I waited. I will be picking this up in XL form for sure, hopefully North America gets an announcement soon.

The later models of Megadrive were to save sega money in production costs, and the other 2 were adapters or "expansion" devices. Not really the same as what Nintendo are doing. If sega had released a Megadrive that was a little faster and had games that would only work with that, then that would have been similar.

It's happened lot in the Home Computer market a lot with Atari, Commodore, Amstrad and Sinclair etc, but computer markets are very different...especially in the 80's.

I remember having a 32x but you could just pop that thing onto the Genesis and still play everything.

If this was actually a substantial upgrade I'd feel a bit burned but I'd be okay with it since it's clearly the next gen handheld. Whatever this new 3DS is, is a minuscule upgrade at best that's fracturing the fanbase. Graphically that Xenoblade game doesn't look any better than Fire Emblem Awakening (during combat animations), yet I can't play it unless I fork over another $200. Not happening.

I would probably get the new 3ds when the XL of it comes out, I was wanting to get an XL of the current one anyway so waiting a while won't hurt

also the start and select buttons look a LOT better than those terrible ones that the current 3ds has

also i have been wanting to play xenoblade for a while and this gives me an excuse to finally get a japanese 3ds so i can play some other japan only games *cough cough* inazuma eleven *cough cough* :kirbyhappy:

I played a bit of E.X. Troopers and Gaist Crusher yesterday on my "New 3DS" LL and my initial impression are:

- The improved 3D is really nice! I can actually relax while playing my 3DS on the max 3D settings. In fact, I'm probably never going to decrease the 3D ever again :P
- You can use the C-Stick to move the camera around in E.X. Troopers but you need to use the D-Pad to navigate the menus. I think that's the perfect use of the C-Stick and as long as companies use it for that purpose, I'm happy with it.
- Fantastic build quality! It feels like a premium version of the 3DS. Especially with the increased CPU as well.

So far, I feel like it was worth the purchase for me mainly for the improved 3D but the overall build quality is a nice plus!

Glad to hear it, I'm probably going to be picking up an XL version when I can. Hope to be playing smash brothers on it.

PC MASTER RACE BITCHES! :prinny2:
Personally I was planning on upgrading to a Xl anyway since I'm not that happy with the original, so waiting abit seems like a wise choice.
Also I would LOVE to try out the new and improved 3D since I can never find that sweet spot to view it.

A C-stick? Now I've got the sense there'll be some GameCube game remakes for this new system.
He can fashion arrow heads out of tin foil yogurt lids.
He has only chewed gum twice in his life and liked neither experience.
He almost won a staring contest with a goldfish.

He is the most interesting knight in the world.

It's practically confirmed they are. If Nintendo doesn't remake Majora's Mask, the backlash with severally hurt them, without a doubt. Plus, Grezzo said they need help "making a legend".

No, I live in Toronto, Canada. I usually use the following sites for imports:

New consoles/games
Play Asia
Yes Asia

Arcade games/hardware
Tops
Excellent

Hard to find shmups related stuff
Tokyo Shmups

Tokyo Shmups is run by rancor on the shmups forum. He's a great guy! He can also help out to proxy buy things from sites that only ship to Japan such as Yahoo Auctions JP, G-Front and MAK.

For retro import stuff I mostly use ebay. There are many more sites out there like...:

Ami Ami
Solaris Japan
NCSX Shop

...but I haven't used them.
