Watch Dogs was disappointing

Like a lot of people, I was incredibly excited for the release of Watch Dogs earlier this year. I spent countless hours watching videos, reading articles and talking about the game to my friends before it released because everyone seemed so be so hyped up for it!

I got Watch Dogs for my birthday and immediately just wanted to go to my Xbox One, put the game in and play, so I did just that. I played the game pretty much non stop for 8 hours or so and stopped shortly before meeting some friends that night. Once I got back home, I switched back on the Xbox One, loaded up Watch Dogs and continued from where I left off before.

2-3 hours after I started again, I started to become really really bored with the game and I think the last time I went on it was early July. I tried going back to it multiple times but the same thing happened where I would just get so bored that I'd turn off my Xbox One and watch TV instead.

I don't know whether it's just me, but I think the game was overhyped and I don't understand where all these 9/10, 5* etc... reviews are coming from because IMO I'd give the game a lot less.

Was anyone else let down by Watch Dogs?

What about it made you bored after enjoying it for eight hours originally? I haven't played WatchDogs but have been waiting for it to hit the $20-30 price.

I found the story very boring honestly. Most games that I'd consider having a boring story usually pick up after about 2-3 hours and become a lot more enjoyable. Watch Dogs on the other hand, I feel will just bore me throughout.

That's the problem, the marketing team for Watch Dogs was just far too good, and built up too much hype - I doubt the final product could have ever delivered.

I'll be picking it up, albeit not until it hits humblebundle prices.

Ds Games!

Sorry to hear this, I got it with my used PS4, otherwise I probably would have passed all together. Still, I was hoping I'd end up liking it anyway, I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I never understood how this game was remotely disappointing. I'd go as far to say it's one of the best games ever made! The only difference between the full game and the trailer was the graphic which still look great on the PS4. The gameplay is amazing, the story is well told, the online is beyond incredible, and graphically it's still impressive.

The Hype machine strikes again!

To be fair, I haven't played it but I've heard similar things from a lot of people.

I picked up the Xbox 360 version on 99Gamers for dirt cheap...well, $25 in trade coins, which is relatively cheap for a newer release. I definitely want to give it a try, but I've heard the next gen version is disappointing (graphically and gameplay-wise), so I'm going to play it on the 360 and test the waters. It looks interesting, but I know not to expect greatness going into it.

Just from what I've heard about the PC port, I won't be buying this game. I won't support a game that purposely gimps the PC version of a game to make consoles look better. They actually found that the graphics were there in the game's files, but were disabled.

Also, I heard the game wasn't that great anyway.

I'm going to give this a try. Just found a PS4 copy for $26 shipped on Amazon Warehouse Deals :] Hoping I like it but $26 is much easier to stomach than $60 if it's a stinker. I heard the new DLC for this is really good, did anyone play that?

I played it and enjoyed it, I loved Watch Dogs though. The driving is different but not bad, stealth is an option, the shooting felt good, you could approach a problem a number of different ways and there was a hell of a lot of content. I understand a lot of the criticisms, but just love open world games and feel this is a great first entry. The first Assassins Creed was in a similar situation. it came out after a lot of hype, didn't realize peoples expectations and was honestly a pretty disjointed game. They listened to the criticisms people had and changed a lot of things for the better in the sequel.

LOL! You were the first person I thought of when I saw this thread, Cole. I knew you'd voice your opinion :P I remember you had nothing but good things to say a few episodes back on Hey, Listen.

For me personally, I never had any hype for the game. I thought it always had promise, but GTA-style games are really not my thing unless it really has a more interesting and unique twist to the formula (Sleeping Dogs and inFamous were great in my opinion). I'm sure I'll get around to picking it up at some point, but definitely not a priority, must-play game.

That's a great overview for me since I loved the first Assassins Creed game! It looks great to me and hacking into people's minds looks pretty humorous from what I've seen via screenshots on neogaf and reddit. I'm going to go into this game with an open mind but it's definitely going to have to compete for my attention between Hyrule Warriors and Forza Horizon 2! :]

It seems to me that you may have actually burned yourself out of the game before it ever game out. This is why some people backout pre-release media for games they are excited about. Maybe you'd think differently if you had of done that too. The game is no achievement compared to games like Grand Theft Auto 5 but it wasn't bad.
