Ive always been a fan of the mech genre ever since i was a little kid watching things like Gundam Wing when it was on toonami in like 97", but in terms of games none of them have ever seemed to be on par with other games. Personally i think its lack of funding or inspiration that has always been the bane of the genres success. So that brings me to my topic is the Mech genre dead or is it waiting for some one to pick it up and make it their own? For one reason or another people seem to draw a line between them selves and this genre pretty easily due to the fact that your playing as a mech and not a person and i find this really disconcerting. Lots of games have parts that have some type of mech in them. Examples would include things like lost planet 1-3, White Knight Chronicals, Gears or war, blah blah blah. Anyway its late and i cant remember more examples. Any way why is it that there is this weird divide when it comes to mech only games that people freak out about? Games like Armored Core, Front Mission, Gundam just seem to burn and toil here in america. Why is it that there are so few here that like the mech only genre, but as soon as they throw things like titan fall out where u can run around like its mirriors edge with mechs makes it sellable? Seriously though with that thought crossing your mind are you not thinking "ya wtf is with that?". I have no idea why its like that to be honest. Maybe its because some people just cant get into the mind set of something. Rpgs arent as popular as they used to be so i guess a genre like this that needs you to be able to just go with it would lack the audiance needed for it. But by golly This genre is seriously a gold mine waiting with the tech now a days why he hell isnt anyone drilling? Sure PGI is trying with Mech Warrior Online (MWO). But their staff is terribly inexperianced at making mmo games and they need more staff. The now hiring label has been on their site for ages. Their progress is slow and blah blah blah, BUT in terms of the genre it is a step in the right direction however the approach to the game is very very dated. If a company was to come along and make a mech game that had the combat quality of a mech warrior with open world elements then that would be a new gate to a revival in the genre in my opinion. I know this was a bit rant-ish but ive had this petpev for a while now. Im just glad metcar introduced me to mech warrior cause he is awesome To bad he doesnt like mech warrior online though If anyone wants to try the game its free to play and i rather like it alot. Most people use Teamspeak 3 to do voice chat it makes the game better then just soloing it. If you team up with friends its needed since if you que as a team you face other teams I stream it some times on http://www.twitch.tv/zamiake |

I've never been big into mech games, but I did like what I got to play of Xenogears. I know that is an RPG so it doesn't exactly fit the same genre, but it was fun. |

My xbox came with a bunch of mech games and most of them were garbage, but I'd be willing to give the genre another chance. A knights of sidonia game would be awesome, would def pick that up

Wasn't Titanfall supposed to be the big mech-shooter? I've heard some very mixed things about that game. |

It needs a franchise like Mechassault again if it's primarily going to be mech combat. That game was very fast paced, easy to pick up and play, and most of all fun. Honestly I don't mean to be a dick but the games you mentioned Armored Core, Gundam, and Front Mission are pretty bad games...mediocre at the very best. Chromehounds had amazing customization but the controls were wonky, and the battling was way too slow paced. Hawken is probably the best mech game right now imo, and TitanFall did mech combat well. Maybe flesh that out a bit more :] Personally I'd love a mech game with TitanFall's fast paced gameplay fleshed out more. Add the customization options that let me build my own mech, and large battlefield where you and other factions fight for control of the map and your victories net you more territory like Chromehounds :] Yikes run on sentence... I'm not the biggest Mech fan but I like to play one from time to time and really enjoyed the 2 MechAssault games on the Original Xbox. I'll also defend the main Front Mission series. They are more Tactical RPG(which I Love) than 'Mech' but Front Mission 1-5 are all very good games...at least 8/10 type good and Front Mission 5 is like a 9/10. Front Mission Evolved is more Mech Shooter and I haven't played it so it may be bad I dunno...but the main series is in no way bad. Anyways on the main OP topic I think it may be the reason mech games are not super popular here IS because it's tough to relate to playing as a Mech or having sympathy or whatever you want to call it for a playable 'Robot'. I don't know why that's the problem other than most of the time you need a protagonist to have 'human-like' qualities or endearing traits and personality to relate. Oh yeah I forgot the previous ones were strategy. Yeah when I talk mech combat games I'm referring to the more action based ones. I never played the strategy ones but I agree with HGC about the 360 Front Mission game. Edited by NinjaPenguin8969, Sep 25 2014, 03:46 PM.

My best friend ordered Steel Battalion the day it came out on original Xbox. He and all of our other friends played that thing nonstop for days... Left huge scratch marks on the floor from the pedal portion. That game was super innovative, but there was only like 2 games that the controller worked with. Kind of a shame. |

I remember playing the Steel Battalion kinect game at PAX and seriously thining their set up was bugged by the lighting or something because of how bad it controlled. Then the reviews came....and I realized that's just how the game was. It's a shame it didn't come out this generation where they would have some time to fineness the kinect controls more...now we will NEVER see another revival of that series, sadly. |

Id be excited about a new SRPG Front Mission game. But after the reception the last game got i doubt that will be a thing. I also wasn't very impressed by Armoured Core V, but the series could make a comeback if they made some different design choices. |

I already know they were mediocre I already mention in my post alot of mech games havent been good. Most mech games have never been done right. Especially gundam games they are always the worst. No one ever found the genres true potential in my optinion. But mech warrior got pretty dam close in terms of the combat And i dont agree with hawken or titian fall. Hawken is to fast and twitch arcade stylized scifi. And titan fall is a glorified mirriors edge with mechs Their fast paced action makes it like high sci-fi fantasy instead of just sci fi so i dont like them so much. As for combat mechs honestly shouldnt be very fast. As an example cars can weight a couple tons but they are only fast because they have wheels. Mechs do not and so they should not be anything remotely fast. Jet turbines of reasonable size for a mech would never have enough force to counter the absurd weight of a mech and are therefore worthless. Yes thats a controdiction to mwo but i dont like how they are in there either. A mech game should be reasonably paced but not absurdly high fantasy. Customization is a must, as is a large world, and territory |

Mech's been dead in anime for about 5 years now, and in video games, all that's good is the indie stuff. |

MechAssault, pretty sure it works on Xbox 360! I also liked what I played of Hawken which I believe is free to play. FEAR 2, and Killzone 2 had some pretty epic mech sequences but weren't really mech games. |
