Ive always been a fan of the mech genre ever since i was a little kid watching things like Gundam Wing when it was on toonami in like 97", but in terms of games none of them have ever seemed to be on par with other games.

Personally i think its lack of funding or inspiration that has always been the bane of the genres success. So that brings me to my topic is the Mech genre dead or is it waiting for some one to pick it up and make it their own?

For one reason or another people seem to draw a line between them selves and this genre pretty easily due to the fact that your playing as a mech and not a person and i find this really disconcerting. Lots of games have parts that have some type of mech in them. Examples would include things like lost planet 1-3, White Knight Chronicals, Gears or war, blah blah blah. Anyway its late and i cant remember more examples. Any way why is it that there is this weird divide when it comes to mech only games that people freak out about?

Games like Armored Core, Front Mission, Gundam just seem to burn and toil here in america. Why is it that there are so few here that like the mech only genre, but as soon as they throw things like titan fall out where u can run around like its mirriors edge with mechs makes it sellable? Seriously though with that thought crossing your mind are you not thinking "ya wtf is with that?".

I have no idea why its like that to be honest. Maybe its because some people just cant get into the mind set of something. Rpgs arent as popular as they used to be so i guess a genre like this that needs you to be able to just go with it would lack the audiance needed for it. But by golly This genre is seriously a gold mine waiting with the tech now a days why he hell isnt anyone drilling?

Sure PGI is trying with Mech Warrior Online (MWO). But their staff is terribly inexperianced at making mmo games and they need more staff. The now hiring label has been on their site for ages. Their progress is slow and blah blah blah, BUT in terms of the genre it is a step in the right direction however the approach to the game is very very dated.

If a company was to come along and make a mech game that had the combat quality of a mech warrior with open world elements then that would be a new gate to a revival in the genre in my opinion.

I know this was a bit rant-ish but ive had this petpev for a while now. Im just glad metcar introduced me to mech warrior cause he is awesome [tailsyawn]
To bad he doesnt like mech warrior online though :-/
If anyone wants to try the game its free to play and i rather like it alot. Most people use Teamspeak 3 to do voice chat it makes the game better then just soloing it. If you team up with friends its needed since if you que as a team you face other teams

I stream it some times on http://www.twitch.tv/zamiake

Nice topic, can't say I ever got into the genre or even played too much, any general recommendations?
