Anyone else grab this game? I grabbed it since I dig the early Resident Evils and looking for a game for my dusty PS4!

First impressions, I am about 3 1/2 hrs in on survival difficulty and find it to be a decent game. It does a lot of things well, but others not so well. Survival horror has taken a backseat in recent years and became more "action".

PROS:
-Enemies and Environments look sweet. Not amazing graphically, but it gets the job done.
-Controls seems to be pretty smooth. Feels like a tighter RE4 with out the quick turn around.
-Upgrade system is pretty cool. Makes you want to scout out the area more to find green goop to level up your character.
-Gore, Gore, Gore! I feel like I'm in an 80's horror flick.
-Frequent auto saves. THANK YOU

CONS:
-Steep learning curve early in. It doesn't mess around, you will die A LOT!
-Lack of melee combat. Your melee attacks are extremely weak, even upgraded. 20 hits to kill a guy, no joke. No stun action like in RE4 which you would expect. (that I have seen so far). Incorporation of Melee weapons similar to The Last of Us would of been nice. Why can I only use my knife to backstab in stealth?!?
-Lack of ammo for the sake of slowing the game down. I know its survival horror, but only able to hold 4 shotgun shells right off seems silly.
-Trial and Error. This is pretty much the name of the game. Surviving is unfair sometimes.

I am hoping it picks up more. I think we have been spoiled with games like The Last of Us that did combat so well that a game like The Evil Within seems limited and makes you defenseless in a game of trial and error. What about you guys?

And who are you? :P [luigidance]

Nah, I haven't picked it up, but seeing that Resident Evil 4 is among my Top 5 games of all time, I am very much looking forward to playing it at some point. Probably Black Friday pickup with Shadow of Mordor? We'll see. I'm glad it's getting some decently positive reception.

Wait so you can't even save up ammo to be used later on?

I love survival horror and am really debating between this game and Alien Isolation.

So I am about 10 hrs in now. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! The game really picks up after Chapter 4. You eventually learn tricks to deal with enemies with out going crazy and using all your ammo. You do have the ability to upgrade the amount of ammo and clip size.

Its a good game and really enjoying it. The learning curve is a little harsh early on. Not that it's hard, just slower then you'd want. I'd recommend it if you're a fan of Resident Evil 4.

How is it on PC? I've only seen PS4 footage and from the looks of that i don't even want to touch it.

Frame rates piss me off these days and watching a game stutter during a damn cutscene just puts me right off, hopefully some optimization will be on the cards for the near future at least.

As far as I know it's locked at 30 untill you unlock it manualy... though it's pretty much impossible to run it at consistant 60. And the requirements are crazy for how it actually looks, I'll be getting it on PS4 eventually for that reason.

I am not a fan of the Survival Horror genre, but this game looks great and I'm hearing good things from friends that own it. The difficulty and steep curve might be a turn-off early in the game, since I'm also not a fan of overly difficult games, bur I'll give it a go. Likely, it'll be one of the first next-gen game I buy when I upgrade.

I've kind of been keeping a cursory look at this game for a long time. Shinji Mikami being attached to the project really interested me. I don't know tons more about it other than, you know, survival-horror and all that, but it's nice to hear good things about it. I'll keep my eye open for it in the future, and will likely pick it up when there's a price drop...maybe before if I'm getting more into a Hallowe'en mood.

Stay away. If you can't shake Dark Souls, you will not finish this game.

I finished it this weekend. Took me 16 hours and I died 115 times. I messed with NG+ a little bit which was neat.

Overall, I liked the game. Early game was kinda meh, but like I said in an earlier post, it picks up a lot. Story was pretty meh, but the game as a whole was pretty rad. 8/10 for me

I'm really interested in this, but I just played through The Last of Us, so it's hard for me to play a game so similar.

If you really like survival horror games you'll want to get through it. Otherwise probably not.

I didn't really have any issues with stuttering. What I did have problems with was a lot of crashing at certain points. Chapter 12 in particular was brutal. It crashed during one particular point about 30 times before I got through it.

Frankly, a survival horror game doesn't need to run at 60 fps. A first person shooter, especially online would need to but every game doesn't need this frame rate. Frankly i don't get the general obsession with this 'stat'. They clearly made a design decision with the frame rate/grainy film look/and letter box format. Everyone complains that everything is the same but the second something is a bit different everyone loses their minds.

P.S. not a rant against Kharnavore but a general one.

Walmart is doing some of their black Friday sales early. Just got this for $30! :)

Edit: Liking it so far! Great enemy design and I like the atmosphere and how ultra violent it is. I HATE the black bars though. Jesus christ I knew this game had black bars but I've never played a game where they took up that much space. Literally 1/3 of the screen is black bars. Wtf.
