A 3rd party Nintendo, is a better Nintendo.

So, in January 2014, it was stated that Sony had a 78% chance of bankruptcy by January of 2016. To put that into perspective, Nintendo only has a 22% chance.

The chances of Sony surviving are the same as Nintendo going bankrupt.

That being said, what does everyone think will happen?

And remember - Sony isn't just Playstation. If they're to be bought out it has to be a Japanese company willing to pick up all of their divisions of Smartphones, TVs, Music, Games, and everything else.

Personally, at this point, it's hard to say what'll happen, but the only companies I can think of that would buy Sony are either Panasonic or Fujitsu. Nintendo's definitely not big enough to take on the Sony burden, so that's out of the question.

Sony is to large and means to much to Japan. They will be forced to slim up the current operation, but to believe Japan would let one of their biggest/most recognizable companies go under is just not going to happen.

I hope they don't :/ Sony is such a nice middle ground between the extremes of Nintendo and Microsoft. You consistently see new IPs being released by them every generation, and look to improve their services and technology all the time. PS Plus has improved dramatically and even forced Microsoft to make Xbox Live have better value.

Nintendo is stubborn and relies on franchises we've been playing for 20 yrs and old technology to keep the costs down. Online wise they're pretty much now getting to where Xbox 360 was in 2006...
Microsoft just nickels and dimes the fuck out of everything, rarely brings new IP and prefers timed exclusives over real ones.

Sony is in the middle of those two and I hope they stick around. They should just drop the Vita entirely at this point and find some cost cutting measures for the Bravia so it can compete better with LG, Samsung, Panasonic, etc.

I like the Vita but lets be honest...when was the last big game release for it? FFX HD? All it's getting at this point are HD Collections already available on PS3 and there is no reason to put more money into that sinking ship with how their finances have been the past 7 years.

I agree Bravia is an excellent product but it is not competitive price wise. I went with Samsung when I bought my tv last year because the Bravia at the same size, 1080p, 240hz, LED, etc cost $300 more. The picture quality difference was minimal at best and not worth that much extra money.

Like people have already mentioned, I still think Sony has outs if things would get to that point. The have sections that they can sell off and cut out that have not been profitable for them.

That being send, if it would happen I don't think anyone would “Buy” Sony but companies would buy up sections of Sony. So someone would be the TV division and someone else would by the Playstation division and so on. But I don’t know who would want to by Playstation. I feel like the only reason why Microsoft would want to is to get rid of the companions and that might solve itself without them having to spend a bunch of money. I don’t think Nintendo would because, well because they are Nintendo. I don’t see any big software developers want to take that on. Even someone like EA or Ubisoft who might be big enough to pull it off, I feel they just don’t want to deal with all of that. If anyone else bought it I think they would ride out this console generation because the PS4 is doing well at the moment but I don’t see them putting any effort to make it a success or putting out a PS5.

Selling it in parts would most probably. E what would happen

Nintendo would definitely not be able to buy it, SCE is bigger than all of Nintendo XD + what u said about it.

You know who it would be awesome if they bought Playstation?

I don't see the Playstation brand changing much at all. It won't be like THQ. I would actually like to see Sony spin PS off and let them run themselves as an wholly owned and ran company.

Danganronpa is crazy popular in Japan and Freedom Wars comes out this week.

Okay I'll rephrase, big world wide release. After looking up that first game you mentioned it sold 70k in it's first month and I think we can agree is a fairly niche game everywhere else. Doesn't exactly seem like the big game savior the Vita needs to pull it out of the slump.

If you're referring to the TechnoBuffalo 'article' that uses MacroAxis, you'd be better off smearing cat feces on your car windscreen and driving it at high speeds through a petting zoo. The amount of animals you strike is the probability that Sony may, or may not do anything, ever. Much more accurate.

Your are a horrible person, think of the bunnies the fluffy pettable bunnies. It is not worth finding out Sony's future.

Didn't everyone say the same thing last year?

The company does seem to be doing quite badly in most areas. I seriously doubt anything would happen that would threaten the gaming division though. They've really got their act together with gaming. Have had for pretty much their entire gaming history. If the rest of the company went under, someone would just buy the gaming section I imagine.
