Sega Does What Nintendon't

I just picked up a PSTV today to be able to play PS Vita games on the TV. I also got Tales of Hearts R and Ys: Memories of Celceta.

I don't know much about the Vita library to be honest so give me some game recommendations! RPG's is my favorite genre.

I plan on buying Child of Light for the system just because I want a physical copy of the game.

Is Muramasa: The Demon Blade a massive improvement over the Wii version?

Do you already have a vita? If not, I hate to tell you but Ys is apparently only working on Japan/Asian models of the PSTV according to the compatibility lists. Though Tales of Hearts R will work great. Muramasa on vita actually has a jump button this time around! The graphics are a bit sharper, the resolution increase looks fairly nice. There's a new translation on the vita version as well.

I'd recommend Tearaway as everyone seems to go on and on about it, but it isn't PS TV compatible either :(
Theres always Persona 4 Golden which I hear is the definitive version of one of the best modern RPGs. Which happens to be PSTV compatible. Then if you like Monster Hunter, theres Toukiden Kiwami!
Games I have for trade!

I didn't think that you could play Ys: Memories of Celceta in the PSTV. I knew that the Jap version got patch so it would work but I didn't think they every patched it in Europe or the US.

Edit:
Look like I was a little late, also Little Kings Story is in the same boat.

That sux that Ys: Memories of Celceta don't work on it. At least it was only $16.00

Looks like child of light works on it!

I don't have a Vita I was planning on picking one up later and getting some games built up for the console playing them on the TV.

If you don't have Rayman Legends already on some platform, the Vita version is quite spiffy and fun to play on.

I do have the Rayman games on other consoles.

So far I know Ill pick up Child of Light at some point

Muramasa: The Demon Blade somewhat interests me even tho i have the Wii version but I haven't look to see if it woks on PSTV

Persona 4 Golden is in the same boat. I want to get it but having played the PS2 version its on the back burner till later.

Danganronpa sounds interesting but being a visual novel it could go either way for me. Only one i ever enjoyed was Steins;Gate.

I would've tried to persuade you to not get a PSTV just for Tearaway. Oh well. I've played Muramasa both on the Wii and Vita, there's an obvious difference there when looking at a CRT and LED screen (in my case, original Vita). I've played Sly 4 and didn't care much for it, still want to get Lumines, the Jak and Sly collection when they go down in value. Also played Soul Sacrifice which is a nice alternative to the Monster Hunter style, although not nearly as good in my opinion. I wish I had more games on my Vita though.

I have a PSTV and not a Vita, one of the things that pushed me over the edge was that Tearaway is coming to the PS4. Obviously they are going to have to retool some things in the game but it was good enough for me to go with the PSTV. Also there are so fairly good rumors about Gravity Rush getting a PS4 port but that has not been confirmed. Another game I would really like to play that doesn’t work on the PSTV.

That's true. I wasn't sure if it was the same game with added stages and features, whether it would retain the features it had on the Vita or whether it would look good on a bigger screen. However, if y'all get a PS4, probably worth it to get it on that with the eventual better selection of games.

I haven't tried Mind Zero myself but it seems rather blasé.

I'll second Muragaru553's recommendation for Rayman Legends. It plays quite nicely on the PS Vita, even though some of the touch screen stuff is a little annoying at times.

I just got Freedom Wars and it seems pretty good for the most part. Lego Marvel Superheroes is also a good game even if it is a little bit on the easy side.

There are a few free games on the PSN store for the Vita that don't hold up too badly.

Fat Princess: A fist full of cake - a typical type puzzler but fun.

Jetpack Joyride - A free runner game but also a decent time killer if you only have a few minutes.

Velocity Ultra - A neat little shooter game that has minor puzzle elements thrown into it.

Earth Defense Force 2017 - If you are a fan of the series it plays okay, but I think it's has an acquired taste to it since it is a lot of repetition.

Guacamelee! - Really slick and polished adventure game that fits probably better on the Vita than home console (I think anyways).

Resogun - Guessing many people played this on the PS4 or PS3 but again, it fits brilliantly on the Vita and if you have the original Vita it looks pretty.

I know a lot of people don't like the Vita, but it's really a decent little machine with some gems in there if you dig. Just like most consoles. Now if only more developers took notice...

So Majin, what are your thoughts on the system? Is it worth a pick up? I have been on the fence since it was released.

If you want a cheaper alternative to be able to play some of the games in the Vita liberty then I say go for it. However there isn't a ton of games for it and I don't expect there to be a big boom in games in the future. Also several of the really big games for the Vita can't be used on the PSTV (as mentioned before), so if you think you will end up getting a Vita in the future at all I would say just skip the PSTV. One more thing to remember is that I think the PSTV is going for $70 these days, but you are going to need to by a memory card that will run you another $50 plus.

Personally I don't have a lot of games for it but the ones I do have I have enjoyed and put enough time into that I think it was worth it.

Oh man I forgot about those memory cards. That's a really good point Unclever. I sold my Vita and was looking to get one of these but those memory cards are way too much money. At least it's noticeable if you use PS Plus a lot which I did for the Vita when I had one.

I think the thing is well worth the money if your into niche RPG's and niche games in general. You can get a base PSTV for $74 new or get one one for $99 that has a DualShock 3 controller, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, The Lego Movie Videogame, and a 8G vita card.

I do wish that more of the games supported Vita TV but there is still a lot out there that does and you can get some exclusive RPG's that I think makes it worth the money.

Tales of Hearts R - only way to play the game in English.
Persona 4 Golden - Best version of one of the best RPG's ever.
Sword Art Online - Hollow Fragment
Muramasa Rebirth - Best version of game.
Child of Light - Way to have physical retail version.
DanganRonpa series
Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars
Criminal Girls: Invite Only
Valhalla Knights 3
Mind Zero
Demon Gaze
Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal
Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy
Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God

Plus you can also buy digital PSP games and play them full screen on the Vita TV. (The only way to play them full screen right now without using cables with a PSP 3000)

The console is worth it to me since you can play Tales of Hearts R and Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection (PSP) on a large screen for under $110.

Man, I love the vita, as a console.

But the games library is nothing short of embarrassing.

That said, just grabbed Suikoden on it. So I can sell my physical copy. WOOPWOOP

I got my Vita Tv 2 weeks ago and all I got to say is, it's a great Persona 4 Golden machine, since that is the only game I have been playing. I have other games for it like, Muramasa, Freedom wars, and LEGO MOVIE THE GAME, but so far, all I have been playing is P4G. Maybe because I love that game alot, but so far the console it self, for being called Playstation TV, doesn't even play netflix. I bought this thing in mind that I could play games on the other TV I have downstairs, but so far not only do I keep it in my room because the of the lack of features, but the PS4 stream sucks. Even when the consoles are right next to each other, there is way to much latency to play anything properly.(inb4 ITZ YOUR CONNECTIONS!!!) Nah, my connection is fine, Sony was nice enough to put a LAN port on the back of the VITA TV, but even both my PS4 and VItaTV where connected via LAN, they still had problems.

Another problem is that this thing doesn't even play a lot of popular titles for the system. Games like, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Street fighter x Tekken, Terraway, and Silent hill, all don't work. You are better off getting an actually Vita. My guess is that this thing is to get kids to have their parents buy it for them. As the console comes with The Lego Movie game, and on the store, there is a tab for family fun, which I don't even think this console supports more than one controller. The parent is much better off getting a 360 or ps3 if they don't want their kid to have something expensive. At least that way the damn thing can play netflix. Seriously Sony no netflix? The fuck. The only video app so far is Hulu. Which I do use Hulu, but I don't just use that. Amazon instant video is also missing, which could have replaced netflix for me, since they both play the same movies and shows.

Too me, this console at your own risk. The console has some games worth playing as listed in this thread, but after a while I would just get a vita if you really want to play the full library. For me right now, after I beat P4G, I don't know what I will play. Maybe Freedom wars? I doubt I will play that for long.
