They are calling it a demo but I am assuming that it is a server data load test.

Even though I shit on this game and still think it looks lame I'd try it out to see if my mind changes, but I can't make any of those times unfortunately. Only an hour each da fuck Nintendo, so weird lol

I played the demo last night with no issues getting in, and there's tilt controls which work surpisingly well; the amount of movement I had to do wasn't obtrusive to hinder my enjoyment of the game, and it worked well for precision when using the right analogue for sharp rotations. People are saying the Steam roller is OP, I think you can easily kill them with all the other class. I think it really will boils down to whether deaths will have any meaningful penalty in the game, because as of right now they aren't too effective with being able to teleport, and even with a 10 second spawn penalty near the end of the game.

The right analogue is for making sharp turns with the reticle of the gun, where the motion controls help for the more slight movements with the retical. Hope that answers your question. :0

The fact that you might not be able to form teams until August is veering me away from the game, I kind of want to be able to coordinate with people. The gameplay is fairly solid, but I think a huge part of the returning factor for me would be the strategizing, otherwise I see myself shelving the game early.

So the game will be missing Team combat on release?

how fast was the match making system?

The way it's being implemented at launch is that you can join 4v4 games with friends, but you're not automatically guaranteed to be on that friend's team every time. I think this is to guarantee that everyone gets a shot at having fun with the game. Nintendo is pumping this to be a pretty family-friendly game, after all, and allowing people to coordinate and strike right off the bat would allow people to figure out winning strategies and combinations at too fast of a pace for everyone to have fun. I think Nintendo wants to set themselves apart in this particular shooter and not make it super one-sided or have a steep learning curve as many other modern shooters tend to have. If I'm being honest, that's what kind of turns me off on multiplayer in a lot of those games. Thus, they'll let everyone have fun for the first couple of months and I guess just kind of figure out what works best, and then implement the "true" team mode in August, where you will be able to stick to a four-man team.

This is all guessing and speculation, but it makes sense considering what the dev team has said about why they didn't implement voice chat.

Relatively fast. They need to work out some kinks. Some times it would match you up right off the bat. Other times, it would be searching for 1-3 minutes before it tells you that you cant connect to the other party. Then it resets, and you get into a game instantly etc.

I personally thought that it wasn't a bad game, I wasnt all that amazing at it but had a decent time playing it. I can see why people would say that the paint roller would be OP, I got killed by it from behind more times than I can count. I found I won more matches by focusing on covering my entire side of the map before battling, and once I died, I'd take a side of the map that was less populated and spray my ink everywhere. Even during close matches I was able to pull off a win by a few % by focusing my efforts to that instead of other player kills. I'm looking forward to playing this at launch, but only if friend play is an option. Like the Mario Kart multiplayer setup would be perfect for this game.

If this hypothetical situation was in fact true, they could just put a system reminiscent to Mario Kart where if your team consistently win at a high rate and a high percentage count of ink splattered on the stage, then there could be an algorithm set in place where the individual (or team, or a combination of both) wracks up points. So the team/individuals who understand the game's mechanic to a better degree than the rest wouldn't play with the people playing it casually or for the first time.

If it's an issue of image and not creating an MLG culture that might detract from their own culture of having fun accessible games, that's another thing. I'm personally not fond of it though and think Nintendo's online experience would more enjoyable if it were streamlined with all the features people have come to expect.

I'm watching the Splatoon Direct now. It looks fun but it depends on how reliable the matchmaking/lag runs.

I did end up getting in the last demo time yesterday. I did enjoy it but we will have to see what kind of staying power the game has once it is released. I only got to play with the SMG type weapon, I kind of wish I could have switch to the other 3 options and checked them out. They didn't allow us to play around with any of the gear or weapon customization but it didn't feel like they are going to be able to pull off any kind of significant competitive community with the game. This has already be eluded to in the discussion but if the game is going to have any kind of long term success I think they are going to have to try to be the Mario Kart of shooters. I think that is what they are trying to do but we will see if they can pull it off. This may sound strange but part of me want to get it just to see how Nintendo ends up choosing to do an online shooter and how they decide to add and develop the game in the future.

Personally I found that I ended up doing better when I focused on covering ground over trying to take out the other team. But it kind of depends on how the other 3 team members are playing. I feel like you want 2 people covering ground and 2 trying to takeout the other team\protect your area.

In the Roller argument, yea if they catch you off guard around a corner or from behind you are kind of screwed but if you can spot them with any kind of distance between you and them they are at a big disadvantage. So I feel there is a give and take there.

Yes, but never chase a roller back to his territory. I about killed one, and he used squid mode to gain full health then popped out to the side of me and took me out in a pretty swift motion. I just barely missed my grenade or else he'd have been toast as a squid. Those who utilize squid mode/jumping will also stand more of a chance. I also recommend shooting ink above enemy players and adjusting until you hit them. If they back up, they get stuck in your ink and its an easy takeout. Also allowed me to aim easier anyways. I also recommend turning up your sensitivity a couple notches if people keep catching you off guard so you can respond to them quicker, helped me tremendously.

@MidiPour Didn't they announce there would be a ranked mode in the direct? Thats where the competitive side of Splatoon will be utilized. You have to level up to a certain level in player matches to unlock it I believe. Casuals/first timers will play in player match. Hopefully you will be able to join friends in player matches or create lobbies, did they mention anything at all about friends in that direct?

I should have noted I didn't watch the Nintendo Direct so I'm oblivious to much of what they've shown or said, besides skimming the video, watching a couple of scenes for a few seconds. If they have a ranked mode, that's good, maybe it will help distinguish regulars from the person who's trying to casually enjoy the game.

I'm really tempted to get this game completely blind going in, I hadn't heard much about it and the only thing I saw was the small amount of Battle Athletes stream where it showed that the aiming was tilt controls, I think that would be rather fun to use and I bet it would work really well for shooters in the future. I'm kinda hyped for this game, just cause it looks different!

There is another one going on, what time?

Last time I kind of had to make a point of making that time available, I don't know how much I am going to want to do that again. If I happen to be home I will probably check it out, if not I will just wait a week and play the game when it comes out.
