So, how'd this turn out?
Still no party play, I like the abilities for all the individual clothing pieces though. If you plan on playing with friends, you can do a 1v1 mode locally.

I am enjoying this game a lot but at the same time I have reservations about recommending this game to other people for $60. I thing that the mechanical of everything work great. Each weapons feels very distinct with it own advantage and disadvantage, leveling feels rewarding but doesn't give you such an advance that someone just starting out at level 1 would feel underpowered, the gameplay elements work very well and the ink diving is much more of a game changer that you might thing at first glance. As much as I am enjoying playing the game you can't get around the fact that there is 5 maps and 1 online mode. Nintendo may have promised to adding more modes, maps, weapons, and gear on a regular basis; but as of right now $60 seems kind of steep. Well the actual connecting and getting into a game work well, there are other thing left out that I kind of feel like any other company but Nintendo would have had in. The no friend invite thing was mentioned, again Nintendo has said that they will be adding some kind of system were you can go in with 4 or 8 friend. Still they put out a game that is online focused with no invite system. There are also some things like you can't change your weapons or gear in-between matches. You have to go back out to the lobby and changes them then get into another game. Also there is no load out, if you change weapons you are most likely going to want different gear.

I hope I am not sounding too negative, because I really am having a lot of fun but there are certain short-coming that just feel like something like this shouldn't be missing.

^ That's pretty weak although if the game mode is good then that's okay. I only play Conquest in Battlefield so I'm not too picky if it's done really well. Since the DLC is free this sounds like a better pickup in 2 months or so based on that.

How is the single player? A lot of people seem to be jizzing about how good the final boss fight is.

I am enjoying the single player but I don't think it is anything too special. Personally I feel like a lot of reviews I have read are over selling it.

I'm having a blast with Splatoon, as you might be able to tell. The game itself is polished very well, but it certainly seems unfinished in some content aspects. Considering I like to play against my brother or friends a lot, I was very disappointed with there being only one mode for local multiplayer. The gameplay is so fast-paced which I love, and there is a surprising bit of strategy mixed in with the colorful madness. I look forward to getting the new map, weapon, and mode today because those were all elements I felt were a little limited. There should have been a good bit more maps to start and a few more game modes, I think, but here's hoping for a lot more future updates. The game is sure to provide me with a lot of replay value as it is. I do enjoy the single player campaign as well, I have made a good amount of progress on that, but it doesn't capture as much charm as the online multiplayer which the game pushes most.

I don't mean to be a dick when I say this but is it just that Splatoon looks unique to you guys? I mean for all of the shit BF and COD get this game offers next to no content compared to those franchises.

I guess I'm trying to say are you guys so starved for something outside a military shooter that something like Splatoon is what you're willing to put your money towards at this point? I love COD and BF but I'm just trying to see what other people like in this regard. For all of the shit those franchises get lack of content is not one of them, yet they are highly criticized. While it seems like Nintendo gets a free pass for releasing a hyped multiplayer game with little content. It just seems like if BF came out in this state it would be a 4/10 and highly criticized by everyone.

I guess I disagree that they are getting away this it. Both me and pokemonzrpg have criticized the game for it and I don't feel like we are alone in voicing that opinion. I even said that I would be hard pressed to recommend the game at the price point that it is at. Just because I have an issue with the amount of contact doesn’t mean that I can’t like the core gameplay. COD and Battlefield are criticized for being too samey between version, well Splatoon has the advantage of not having any previous games in the franchise to compare it to I do feel Splatoon manages to put a fresh take on the genre.

^ Fair enough dude. I think you guys have been more than fair regarding your thoughts on the game. I guess it's hard to gage without myself appearing bias since there's so few people here talking about it, whereas I'm incorporating opinions from outside sources such as neogaf when I'm making my statements. I actually really appreciate how balanced you have been regarding this game although it sounds like a good August game for me personally.

My thoughts align pretty well with yours in that regard.

Additionally, it should be stated that I do still enjoy Call of Duty as well, actually. The two of them are of course completely different experiences, but I have criticized CoD for the same reasons you (NinjaPenguin) mentioned, and now I criticize Splatoon for its own reasons. But at their core I enjoy them both. The fact that I don't think I've personally ever played anything like Splatoon shouldn't go unrewarded, either. Part of my praise for the game is that it does provide a unique experience and the kind of fast-paced gameplay I enjoy. I of course will continue to acknowledge its flaws and I do think it should have been released with a bit more content, but I think there is enough replay value there for me to personally justify the investment (though it was my brother that made the initial purchase :P).

Good impressions dude. I was going to criticize people praising this at $60 while shitting on COD for offering a more complete experience but if the unique-ness if what's winning you over than I completely understand. Is this a new PGRF game nights game in the near future? I'd buy it for that. I really do miss the daily MK8 we had going on. Smash Brothers is just not for me anymore, sadly.

Well, when Splatoon releases party play, PGRF game night can be a viable option with this game. Unless they added it already? Anybody?

Gunna wait for a definitive version, or until it drops cheap on preowned before I jump on board.

Game looks mint, just not sure on pulling the trigger, yet.

There is another map update to Splatoon today, Kelp Dome. I had suspected that the last map update was already on disc because I didn't see any actual update or download. With Kelp Dome I know it is on disc because they use that map in the signal player campaign. So it seems like this was how they always planned to do things from the start. I can only guess that their idea was that they could keep interest in the game by adding new things over a period of time.

I've played Splatoon at a friend's house a handful of times, and I love it. It takes a genre of shooter games, and makes it bright, and colorful, and a bit ridiculous really. A lot of people are addicted to the game, and I can see why. I seriously want to get a Wii U and get this game.

The game is okay, you have to use motion controls unless you wanna gimp yourself with the analog sticks, if the target cursor didn't spaz out if you tried looking down from a platform or with a small bump in front of you it would be great on my list. Also the Japanese players who lag their way to wins with the roller are the bane of my existence.

I feel Nintendo is so absent minded when it comes to online play, why oh why does this game not have dedicated servers on a massively multiplayer game no less.

I just got to level 20 the other day. If anyone is curious it took me about 35 hours according to my WiiU. That is with complete signal play and then adding the fact that I general suck at games I would say 25 hours is a good norm.

Now that I've beaten Monster Tale on the ds, I have decided to try to burn through another of the Lego games i own for the system. I originally started with just the star wars ones, but then bought the indiana jones games, and batman, and it got to the point of needing them all. Currently I'm playing the second Harry Potter game, and hope to finish it within a few days to cut down on the seemingly never ending list of yet to beat ds games.
