If its Shenmue 3 I can die happy
Also lets keep in mind that there have been multiple rumors up till now some with credibility about a Sony partnership for Shenmue 3
If nothing Shenmue related is shown after this blatant tease I will be selling pitchforks in front of Yu Suzuki's house if anyone is interested

Hahaha, I sure hope that this is Shenmue 3. They've got to know of the huge following for this game series. Possibly a Shenmue HD collection with all voice acting options (Jp/eng) for XB1/PS4. Hopefully if they announce that, they also announce Yakuza 1+2 HD for North America. I have high hopes for this E3. I mean, Nintendo announced they were bringing Fatal Frame WiiU to North America, so there is hope for more niche Japanese games here in the west.

Pretty cool. Never played this series but I'd like to. Couldn't care less about Dreamcast but I'll give the PS4 version a shot.

Put $300 down and I'm crazy enough to consider another $200. It has finally happened :').

Maybe someone more knowledgeable on the subject then me can answer this question. Since they are using the name Shenmue 3 Yu Suzuki just own the rights to Shenmue on some level, right? Does he own the rights to the first 2 games or just the IP? Because I feel like somebody needs to do a port of Shenmue 1 and 2 to current gen consoles. A major reason I have always felt Shenmue 3 was so unlikely was that it is such a narrative driven game and 3 I am assume is taking place direct after or very shortly after the events of 2. Trying to sell Shenmue 3 to people who have not played 1 and 2 seems like a hard pitch to me. If your target audience is the people who played both Shenmue 1 and 2 that is not very big.

Obviously an HD version would be best but even just a port would be OK.

The corner of the trailer says original game by SEGA TM they definitely still own the IP. It looks like he only has approval to make this game, but if SEGA sees how well its doing on Kickstarter then they may do HD re-releases, by the way here is the KS if anyone is wondering
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3
The funding goal was reached in about 8.5 hours we are now working on stretch-goals, personally I plan on forking out $300 when I get the chance.

Well, they are doing Shenmue 1 and 2 cinema shorts as stretch goals so you can catch up on all the story. They already did one for Shenmue II on Xbox, im sure they will recycle it. But if its Segas.. then they will make all new cinematics. But I definitely want a Shenmue HD collection, that would be dope af.

Oh, I was under the impression Sony funded this. I'm not going to back it on kickstarter since I have no experience with this series but I'll check it out when it releases.

They are probably using the Kickstarter as an indicator to see if there is actually interest in the project before they back it with funding.

UPDATE: I was correct, Gio Corsi just announced on the live E3 stream on Twitch that the Kickstarter was used to gauge interest and now that they have hit the goal they will be officially helping with funds and development of the game, this game is looking out to be fantastic. This also confirms that an Xbox version is never happening ever.

UPDATE 2: I can also confirm that Shenmue 1 & 2 HD remakes are up to SEGA as it states on the Shenmue 3 FAQ page

You should give the series a chance. It is hit or miss with a lot of people but I personally love it. When you have people recording themselves crying over this, then you can get an idea of what kind of impact it can have. Shenmue is a unique experience and every game lover needs to at least try it.

^ I will, but after it comes out. Clearly it's happening since it got funded in no time, but I'm not going to have money tied up for a year+ to a game franchise I know little bit about, and have no experience with. Based on the videos it looks a lot like Yakuza which I do like.
